Bluffton bank office celebrates 45th anniversary
Palmetto State Bank recently celebrated the 45th anniversary of its Bluffton office, recognizing longtime customers, employees and the bank’s history in the community.

More than 200 people were invited to the celebration, which followed a renovation of the Bluffton office.

Monty Laffitte spoke about the construction and opening of the office in 1981, when Bluffton had a population of about 600 and the office was the town’s only bank.

Several attendees have been customers for all 45 years, recalling the office’s early days and their relationships with the bank.

John Sulka, Zina Harter and the Bluffton staff were recognized during the celebration.

The office renovation was completed with planning and guidance from Nancy Golson and Malea Everidge, along with Highsmith Construction.

Board Chair Becky Laffitte thanked customers for their business over the years and spoke about the longstanding relationships between the bank and the community.

Latitude Margaritaville wins national master plan award

Latitude Margaritaville, the active-adult community brand developed by Minto Communities USA and Margaritaville Holdings, has received Zonda’s 2026 Master Plan of the Year Award.

The companies began collaborating on the developments in 2017, creating communities for adults 55 and older that combine residential housing with recreational amenities and organized activities.

“Nearly a decade ago, Minto Communities and Margaritaville bet that active adult buyers wanted more than a house, they wanted a lifestyle,” said Jeff Meyers, chief executive officer of Zonda.

Latitude Margaritaville’s first community, in Daytona Beach, Florida, has sold out, according to the developers.

The second development, Latitude Margaritaville Hilton Head, is expanding by an additional 2,600 homes. The companies say sales at the South Carolina community have exceeded projections.

A third development, Latitude Margaritaville Watersound, is being developed near Panama City Beach, Florida. The communities feature resort-style pools, fitness centers, restaurants, live entertainment venues and recreational facilities, including pickleball and tennis courts.
