St. Andrew By-The-Sea names senior pastor

St. Andrew By-The-Sea United Methodist Church on Hilton Head Island has appointed the Rev. Steve Patterson as its new senior pastor.

The church, located at 20 Pope Ave., announced Patterson’s appointment July 16.
Patterson has served in several districts within the South Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church, including Anderson, Orangeburg, Florence, Rock Hill, Hartsville and Walterboro. Most recently, he served as district superintendent in Anderson.

During his final two years as district superintendent, Patterson also supervised 22 churches in the Greenville District as the conference completed its transition from 12 districts to 10.

“We are a community of God’s people on a sacred journey together,” Patterson said of his approach to ministry.

Patterson grew up in Antreville, South Carolina, and became a United Methodist pastor in June 1985.

He and his wife, Debra, are birders and are relocating to the Hilton Head Island area as he begins his new role at St. Andrew By-The-Sea.
