Sondra Ammeen Memorial Scholarships awarded

The Kiwanis Club of Bluffton awarded 10 Sondra Ammeen Memorial Scholarships May 19, recognizing students from several Lowcountry schools for their academic achievement, leadership, service and commitment to their communities.

Each scholarship carries a $2,500 award. The annual program honors the memory of Sondra Ammeen and supports students as they pursue future educational goals.

Club leaders, family members and community supporters gathered for the presentation, which highlighted the accomplishments of students from Bluffton High School, Cross Schools, Hilton Head Christian Academy and May River High School.

Robyn and Phil Kiser served as chairmen of the event and helped coordinate the scholarship presentation and recognition ceremony.

Jeff Lake, president of the Kiwanis Club of Bluffton, opened the evening with fellow club leaders and members. Wendy Barrett, the club’s immediate past president, spoke about the history of the Sondra Ammeen Memorial Scholarships and the program’s role in recognizing students in the community.

This year’s scholarship recipients were:

• Rebecca Wohn, Bluffton High School
• Isabella Carbone, Cross Schools
• Madison Lange, Hilton Head Christian Academy

• Emma Thompson, Hilton Head Christian Academy
• Aiden Baumbaugh, May River High School
• Abbee Bolin, May River High School
• Myla Greene, May River High School
• Gabriella Lidey, May River High School
• Andrew Morrissette, May River High School
