Representatives of three organizations are scheduled to discuss maternal health, domestic abuse and gun violence during a community forum Oct. 3 at the Bluffton Library.
The forum will be held from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the library, 120 Palmetto Way. Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America will facilitate the event.
The program will include representatives from Chamber of Mothers discussing maternal health, Hopeful Horizons discussing domestic abuse and Moms Demand Action discussing gun violence. The forum is intended to provide information about the issues ahead of the 2026 election.
Angie Brewster is scheduled to represent Chamber of Mothers and provide data and an overview of the organization’s advocacy and actions. The program also calls for two survivors or family members of people who died following what the event material describes as inadequate maternal health care to share their experiences.
Rose Ewing is scheduled to represent Hopeful Horizons and discuss its services, advocacy and actions. Two survivors and/or family members of people who died are also scheduled to share their stories.
Richard Hammes is scheduled to discuss gun violence on behalf of Moms Demand Action, including data and an overview of advocacy and actions. Two survivors and/or family members of people who died are scheduled to share their experiences.
Hammes also is scheduled to welcome attendees, introduce the panel and provide closing comments. The program will include questions from the audience.
Promotional material for the forum cites rankings for South Carolina in infant mortality, maternal mortality, domestic abuse cases and gun deaths, but no sources, dates or methodology for those figures were provided.
