As the United States marks the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in 2026, communities across Bluffton and Hilton Head Island are planning celebrations filled with races, concerts, family activities and fireworks displays.

The Town of Bluffton will begin its Independence Day festivities with its fifth annual Independence Day 5K on Thursday, July 2. The race at New Riverside Barn Park welcomes runners and walkers of all skill levels. There will be a children’s 5K and a free “Chase the Chief” fun run for children age 8 and younger. The fun run will take participants around the park as they attempt to catch Bluffton’s chief of police. After the race the fun continues with live music, food trucks, beer, and giveaways.
The first 400 runners will receive a commemorative race T-shirt. The top overall male and female winners will have their names engraved on the Mayor’s Cup; a prestigious trophy displayed at Bluffton Town Hall. The event will conclude with Rick Hubbard’s Bubble Stuff Show, followed by a performance of the national anthem by a local Bluffton student.
At 9 p.m., a 20-minute fireworks display is scheduled to launch from a barge on the May River. Recommended viewing locations include Oyster Factory Park, Wright Family Park, Martin Family Park and Dubois Park. Organizers note that the barge location may change depending on weather and water conditions, potentially affecting viewing angles.
Attendees are encouraged to arrive early, as parking in historic Old Town Bluffton is expected to fill quickly. Shuttle service and temporary road closures are planned throughout the celebration area.

Participants can enjoy a post-race celebration featuring music, food, children’s activities and prize giveaways. Proceeds from the event benefit organizations. For those on the beach this Fourth of July, Salute From the Shore is expected to reach the Hilton Head area around 1:30 p.m. The military flyover begins farther north along the South Carolina coast and travels south toward the Beaufort-Bluffton area. Salute From the Shore, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to organize, promote and film a military flyover along the South Carolina coast on the Fourth of July. At 1 p.m., F-16s from Shaw Air Force Base will make their way down the coastline, beginning at Cherry Grove in North Myrtle Beach and ending in the Beaufort-Bluffton area. Following the active military aircraft will be an all-volunteer brigade of warbirds, a civilian-owned and operated vintage aircraft community that includes T-34s, T-6s and T-28s. Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina will host its annual HarbourFest Fourth of July celebration. The event is part of HarbourFest’s 37th season, which organizers describe as Hilton Head Island’s largest multiweek summer event and a centerpiece of the community’s America 250 celebrations.
HarbourFest features family entertainment throughout the summer, including performances by Shannon Tanner and appearances by Cappy the Clown. Fireworks are presented weekly during the summer season, with a special Independence Day show scheduled for July 4.
On Independence Day, Shannon Tanner will perform patriotic-themed shows at 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina.
Nearby, Super Summer Jams will take place from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Shelter Cove Community Park. The event will feature bounce houses, face painting and family-friendly activities. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and enjoy food and refreshments available from nearby restaurants.
The HarbourFest celebration concludes with fireworks beginning at 9 p.m. over Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina.
Organizers remind guests that drones are prohibited during fireworks displays for safety reasons. All entertainment schedules and fireworks events are subject to change based on weather and operational conditions.

New this year, Woody the Clydesdale from Lawton Stables will lead the procession through Harbour Town. Parade participants will be judged on their patriotic spirit, and complimentary decorating supplies will be available for the first 100 registered participants.
Following the parade, families can enjoy the Fourth of July Carnival on the Harbour Town lawn from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Activities include carnival games, face painting, inflatable attractions, juggling performances and a bubble show. A watermelon-eating contest will be held beneath the Liberty Oak while DJ Alan provides music throughout the event.
Woody the Clydesdale will also be available for a meet-and-greet following the parade.
As evening approaches, Harbour Town’s annual Gregg Russell Fourth of July concert beneath the Liberty Oak beginning at 8 p.m. Russell is celebrating his 49th season of performances in Harbour Town.
At approximately 8:15 p.m., Lincoln, a bald eagle ambassador with the American Eagle Foundation, is scheduled to launch from the top of the Harbour Town Lighthouse. Lincoln, who has appeared in Budweiser commercials and flown during Philadelphia Eagles games, will fly over Harbour Town before gliding toward the 18th green of Harbour Town Golf Links as part of the resort’s America 250 celebration.
The Sea Pines celebration will conclude with fireworks beginning at 9 p.m. over Harbour Town and Calibogue Sound.
Visitors arriving later in the day may use designated public parking areas along Greenwood Drive from 3 p.m. until 11 p.m. Complimentary shuttle service will transport guests between the parking lots and Harbour Town Yacht Club.
Additional Sea Pines holiday-week activities include Ben Franklin on Liberty Oak Stage, Patriotic Sidewalk Chalk and performances by The Fabulous Equinox Orchestra.
