Habitat for Humanity of the Lowcountry expands home repair assistance

Posted

As the cost of housing, insurance, and home maintenance continues to rise, many local families, veterans, seniors, and individuals living on limited incomes are struggling to keep up with critical home repairs. For some homeowners in Beaufort and Jasper Counties, repairs can create significant financial hardship, making it difficult to maintain safe and healthy living conditions. Habitat for Humanity of the Lowcountry is working to help address that need through its Home Repair Program, which assists qualifying low-income homeowners with critical exterior repairs and accessibility improvements.

The program is designed to help local families maintain safe living conditions while preserving affordable housing throughout the Lowcountry. Services may include wheelchair ramps, exterior repairs, siding, accessibility modifications, and other critical home repairs based on household need and available funding.

“Our goal is to help families remain in their homes and improve overall housing conditions within our community,” said Brenda Dooley, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of the Lowcountry. “For many homeowners, repair costs can become overwhelming financially, and this program helps provide support that can make a lasting difference.”

Habitat for Humanity of the Lowcountry serves qualifying low-income homeowners in Beaufort and Jasper Counties. Applicants must meet program income guidelines, demonstrate housing need, and own and occupy the home requiring repairs.

In addition to improving safety and accessibility, the Home Repair Program helps preserve housing stability for families facing financial hardship and supports stronger neighborhoods throughout the community.

Habitat for Humanity of the Lowcountry has served the region for nearly four decades and has helped build more than 200 homes across the Lowcountry through affordable homeownership and housing preservation programs.
