Michael Wayne Wojcik, a South Carolina author and Lowcountry resident, will discuss his latest novel, “Don’t Let Me In,” during an event Aug. 20 at Emry’s Bookshop in Port Royal Plaza.

The event is scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. at the bookstore, located in the shopping center commonly known as the former Sam’s area. Books will be available for purchase, and Wojcik will sign copies following the discussion.

Wojcik is known for writing character-driven fiction centered on suspense, dialogue and psychological tension. His debut novel, “Powers of Persuasion,” explored themes of ambition, influence and relationships set in the South Carolina Lowcountry.

His newest book, “Don’t Let Me In,” moves into supernatural suspense, blending folklore, mystery and psychological thriller elements.

The novel follows Dr. Phyllis DeFalco, a former CIA operative turned folklore professor at Kensington University in coastal South Carolina. DeFalco is drawn back into investigative work after a series of disturbing crime scenes emerge in Rome, Hong Kong, Beaufort and Lagos.

As she investigates with an international team, DeFalco uncovers ritual patterns tied to ancient beliefs involving spirits crossing between the living and the dead. The investigation eventually leads back to Beaufort, where local folklore surrounding Boo Hags becomes central to the story.

The novel incorporates supernatural traditions from multiple cultures, including Gullah spiritual practices and global folklore.

Wojcik said his writing focuses on ordinary people facing extraordinary circumstances and the choices that define them.

Living in the Lowcountry continues to influence his work, drawing from the region’s history, culture and folklore.

The Aug. 20 event will include a discussion of Wojcik’s storytelling process, audience participation and a book signing.

A limited number of copies of “Don’t Let Me In” will be available for purchase through Emry’s Bookshop. Attendees planning to purchase books for signing are encouraged to reserve copies in advance through the bookstore.
