The Women’s Association of Hilton Head Island will kick off its 60th year Sept. 22 with a “Picnic in the Park,” to be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Mary Ann Peeples Pavilion at the Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn.
The keynote speaker with be Stan Smith, Wimbledon and U.S. Open Champion, Adidas tennis shoe great and Hilton Head resident. The kick-off luncheon will be a picnic with individually packaged lunches catered by Signe’s Heavenly Bakery.
Attendance will be limited in compliance with social distancing mandates.
WAHHI will also be collecting new medium size, simple style backpacks (black, red, or dark blue) for Backpack Buddies. These empty backpacks will be distributed to schools in Bluffton and Hilton Head Island for students in need of food over the weekends.
For those who cannot attend, San Smith’s keynote presentation will be broadcast on Facebook Live beginning at noon.
Smith dominated tennis in the early 1970s, winning the U.S. Open in 1971 and Wimbledon in 1972. In his career he has won 39 singles titles. He was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1986 and in 2011 became the President of the organization.
