There once was an 89-year-old woman who’d never thought much about her health. She drank, smoked and ate what she wanted her entire life.
At the tender age of 89, however, she decided to embark on a journey toward greater health. She began a consistent daily practice of walking, and months later went from walking one block to five miles a day.
You, too, can begin to lead yourself to greater health now, no matter your age, state of your current health or size of your wallet.
Your physical body is always attempting to bring itself back into balance. Since your cells, organs and glands are always striving for homeostasis, it’s relatively easy to gently lead your whole being to ever increasing health.
There are three simple things you can do today to begin feeling better now:
Drink more water. In a little book called “Your Body’s Many Cries for Water,” Fereydoon Batmanghelidj, M.D., states, “Chronic cellular dehydration painfully and prematurely kills. Its initial outward manifestations have until now been labeled as diseases of unknown origins.”
He suggests up to three liters of water a day to thoroughly hydrate our organs and cells, leading to the prevention and even eradication of many imbalances in our bodies.
One gentleman in the book shared his inspiring testimonial: “Within one week of adding two to three quarts of water to my diet I noticed that (among others): the pain from the nerve injury went away and I was able to exercise again; my energy levels improved; and my thinking and work improved.”
Take a walk. The late naturalist John Muir said, “In every walk with nature, one receives far more than he seeks.” Walking is one of the healthiest activities you can do for yourself.
Not only is it free, walking has a myriad of health benefits: walking improves your entire cardiovascular system, strengthens your bones and muscles, improves your circulation, slows mental decline and can even lift your mood.
Walking is wonderfully convenient as well. Just don your most comfy shoes and head out your front door. What could be easier?
