Earth Day is April 22; how are we saving our planet?

With this feature, we seek to capture a glimpse of what you and your neighbors have to say about a variety of topics, issues, events – and just plain fun questions.

We are back out on the street, with notepad and camera, randomly seeking out folks who are willing to participate. If we find you, we hope you will want to respond.

We visited At the Hilton Head Public Library, we asked patrons: What is something you do regularly to help save the planet?

Sharon Harris Bell, Hilton Head: “I recycle. I try to reuse the plastic bags as many times as I can. I’ve been very conscious about plastics. I am going from the laundry pods back to the regular liquid.”

Rochelle Canada, Hilton Head: “I try to put plastics with plastics. I conserve energy, I don’t put on any unnecessary lights in my house. I conserve water, I don’t let it run.”

Wendy Bowles, Hilton Head: “I try not to buy clothing unless I need to. I don’t waste food. I use covers on dishes instead of plastic wrap. I get library books instead of buying them.”

Helen Ross, Hilton Head: “Recycle. I try to conserve energy by running my dishwasher at night. I do my laundry on the weekends.”

Carol Murphy, Hilton Head: “We recycle, and I garden – I pick up the branches and prune. I try to be a good neighbor and keep things clean and tidy.”
