Bernie Riedel

Bernie Riedel, a member of Rotary Club of Hilton Head Island, has been awarded the prestigious Rotary Foundation International Award for a Polio Free World.

Rotary International Awards, presented for broad service to the cause of polio eradication, are made annually, and no more than 10 individuals are recognized. The honor was announced at this year’s District Awards Ceremony.

Riedel is the Rotary District 7770 End Polio Now co-chairman, past president of the Rotary Club of Hilton Head Island, and past District 7770 Governor.

Established by the Trustees of the Rotary Foundation, the award recognizes outstanding service in the field of advocacy, fundraising and contributions to Rotary’s polio eradication efforts. The dollar impact to fight polio over the last three years in District 7770 has been just over $3 million.

District 7770 comprises the 25 eastern counties of South Carolina and encompasses 79 Rotary clubs with a membership of approximately 3,700 Rotarians.

Rotary Club of Hilton Head Island has been the Top Polio Giving Club out of the 79 Clubs in District 7770 for the past three years. The club was recognized once again for this achievement at the recent District Awards ceremony.
