Pledge The Pink’s inaugural outing under its new name proved to be an overwhelming success, bringing in 1,298 registrants from 48 states and 14 countries to the Lowcountry for four days of fun and fellowship in September. Even more impressive than the massive attendance is the large geographical draw of the event. All told, 81 percent of Pledge The Pink participant were visiting from more than 100 miles away, and 97 percent were here for all four days of the event.

“Pledge The Pink has a huge national and international following. Just looking at the event as a tourism draw, we put a massive number of heads in beds during the event –more than 3,500 room nights,” said Pledge The Pink founder Laura Morgan.

Every dime raised by Pledge The Pink stays locally to help fund screening, treatment and research in the Lowcountry. And while the totals are already being tallied, what the numbers show so far is remarkable. In setting a Guinness World Record with their Flocks of Love fundraiser, the event raised over $66,000 in pink flamingo “adoptions” this year, breaking their 2016 Guinness World Record with 1,327 plastic flamingos in the flock. One Chicago-area registrant single-handedly raised more than $15,000. (Fundraising through Flocks of Love is still open through Oct. 31 at

Work has already begun on next year’s Pledge The Pink, and a record number – 712 – of this year’s attendees have already signed up to return in 2018.

The 2017 host sponsors were Callawassie Island and Haig Point on Daufuskie Island. Hilton Head Island also hosted a portion along public pathways. Morgan said “It would be marvelous if next year we could see one of Hilton Head’s wonderful communities stepping up to host.”

Participants at Callawassie were met with equal enthusiasm from the island’s residents, who decorated everything from the courses to their homes and mailboxes with an abundance of all things pink. Residents also lined the course with water stations, photo booth stations, games and endless encouragement. Participants voted Callawassie their favorite location.

The 2018 iteration of Pledge The Pink will be held Oct. 25-28, and three-day registration is just $200 through Oct. 31 using coupon code BOO2018.
