The Palmetto Quilt Guild (PQG) Inc. awarded $2,000 in scholarships to local graduates, both of whom plan to pursue a visual arts degree at schools in South Carolina this fall.
In addition to the scholarship, they were presented with a handmade quilt, sewn by guild members.
Guild president Pam Rubinos presented the checks, certificates to commemorate the occasion, and quilts at a small gathering on June 17.
Molly Rembold, a recent graduate of John Paul ll Catholic School, was awarded $500.
Rembold plans to attend Clemson University and major in studio art with her ultimate goal of having an art-centered business. She is passionate about design and inspired by the creative career that Joanna Gaines has built for herself.
Olivia Waters, a graduate of Hilton Head Island High School, was awarded $1,500.
Waters will attend the University of South Carolina School of Visual Art and Design this fall. She aspires to become a medical illustrator that combines her passion for medicine and her artistic ability into a career. Her achievements include a National Silver Medal in the 2019 Scholastic Art and Writing competition.
