Karen Balerna, RN, BSN has opened Nurse Advocate Partners, LLC in the Bluffton and Hilton Head area. Balerna is the founder and clinical director of the company.
Nurse Advocate Partners originally opened four years ago in Massachusetts. The company assists clients by improving communication between them and their doctors.
The firm focuses on helping patients better understand their healthcare situations and helps them adhere to the medical recommendations and follow-up.
Nurse Advocate Partners employs only registered nurses or nurse practitioners, who will transport clients to their appointments, make sure all their questions are answered and concerns are addressed, and that they understand the information being given them by their doctor.
The professionals also help patients follow the recommendations made by the doctor following their appointments.
An updated medication list is always on hand and provided to the client.
Balerna, who has been a nurse for 27 years, saw the necessity for a service like Nurse Advocate Partners after accompanying many family members to doctors’ appointments.
She is a graduate of the Connell School of Nursing at Boston College and a member of The Alliance for Professional Health Advocates and National Association of Healthcare Advocacy Consultants.
Balerna resides in Bluffton with her husband and three children.
