Nurse midwife joins new women's health practice

Long-time Lowcountry practitioner Jennifer Burks, APRN, CNM has joined Pinnacle Women’s Health, a new practice created by Dr. Audrey Klenke and located within the offices of Pinnacle Plastic Surgery.

Burks came to Hilton Head Island in 2006 to work for the late Dr. Neil Love, the well-known OB-GYN at Island Women’s Center, and was one of the first Certified Nurse Midwives to deliver babies at Hilton Head Hospital.

While working with Dr. Love, Burks was also instrumental in helping start Clinica de la Mama to provide quality healthcare for Hispanic women.

Burks started her career in the medical field as an officer in the United States Air Force, where she specialized in maternal and infant health. She received her post graduate nurse midwifery certification at Texas Tech University.

She has more than 25 years of experience providing OB-GYN care, most recently with Bon Sain Complete Women’s Healthcare in Bluffton, where she worked with Dr. Kristi Blessitt.

“When Dr. Blessitt made the announcement that she was closing the practice, I knew I wasn’t ready to retire and I also felt responsible for my patients,” said Burks. “I was well aware of Dr. Audrey Klenke’s reputation and skill, so I approached her to see if she would be interested in adding a Women’s Health service at Pinnacle.”

At Pinnacle Women’s Health, Burks provides annual gynecologic exams for women and adolescents, and covers a full spectrum of care, including Pap smears, breast exams, hormone optimization, menopause counseling, HCG Diet counseling, lifestyle coaching, screenings, family planning, contraception and more.

“I have been extremely fortunate to have worked with Dr. Love. I miss him and Hilton Head just doesn’t feel the same without him,” she said. “I can say the same for Dr. Blessitt. It was a privilege to work with her. And now I get to work with the best plastic surgeon in Bluffton and Hilton Head!”
