To the Editor:

Thank you so very much to all the businesses, churches, individuals and volunteers who supported our youth in the Bluffton Community once again at our fifth annual Back To School Fun Day held on Aug. 1 at Bluffton High’s baseball stadium.

With your charitable donations of monies, school supplies and backpacks, we were able to provide 500 low-income youth with backpacks filled with the necessary school supplies to start school off positively for the first day of school.

We were also able to donate backpacks to Red Cedar Elementary, River Ridge Academy and The Town of Bluffton Police Department (National Night Out), with each elementary school receiving 25 backpacks filled with school supplies.

There was lots of fun and education for the entire family, free health screenings, educational and civic services provided by: Beaufort Memorial Wellness mobile unit, Beaufort Jasper Comprehensive Dental mobile unit, Walmart Vision Center, Coastal Carolina Hospital wellness department, Better Life Chiropractic, TCL and The Town of Bluffton Fire and Police Department.

The highlight was the two workshops offered to the adults before receiving the backpacks for their children: CODA and Beaufort County Drug and Alcohol (prevention department) did a phenomenal job educating the adults who attended.

This event will continue to grow with the continued support of our Bluffton community and surrounding area. God bless you and thank you.

To the Editor:

Great day for women and the Army after hearing about the women who will graduate from Army Ranger Training … and a long time coming.

Now we’ll have to see how the Army and Pentagon handle their future assignments – hopefully in a fair an equitable manner truly deserving of all members of our “fighting” forces.
