Who wouldn’t love sampling good wine and fine cuisine on an April evening on Hilton Head Island? Better yet when you can also help raise money for a good cause.

You can do just that April 14 at the inaugural WineFest at Hazel Dean’s at The Shops at Sea Pines Center. Proceeds from the event will benefit Second Helpings, the local nonprofit agency that rescues food in Beaufort, Jasper and Hampton Counties.

The evening kicks off at 5:30 p.m. with a sparkling wine reception, followed by an evening where guests can sample more than 30 wines paired with tapas, prepared with food from Hazel Dean’s, a gourmet market.

Hosts for the evening are Mike and Debbie Kilgore, who opened Hazel Dean’s last May in a renovated former bank building at 77 Lighthouse Road. (The bank vault is their wine cellar.)

“Not the best timing,” said Debbie. “But Mike and I had been dreaming of the day when we would open a gourmet market that would allow everyone to experience some of our favorite ‘finds’ – products normally only found in exclusive shops – at a price point most everyone can enjoy.”

Despite opening in a most unusual year, Hazel Dean’s has prospered and grown a devoted following among food lovers.

WineFest will give the Kilgores a chance to showcase their shop to even more folks while helping an important local charity.

Tickets are $75 per person and are available at HazelDeans.com or 843-802-2001.
