• Two family medicine resident physicians at Memorial University Medical Center were recognized recently at the American Academy of Family Physicians’ (AAFP) annual conference in Kansas City, Mo. Natalie Britt, M.D. and Jamal Lawrence, M.D. were named to leadership positions within AAFP, the leading professional organization for primary care physicians.

Britt, a native of Augusta, Ga., was elected the alternate resident delegate to the AAFP’s Congress of Delegates.

Lawrence, a native of Yonkers, N.Y., was selected to serve as a coach for the Primary Care Leadership Collaborative, a collaboration among three national organizations: AAFP, Family Medicine for America’s Health, and Primary Care Progress.

  • Kristen Clark, MS, PA-C and Meghan Maloney, MS, PA-C, both of Hilton Head Dermatology, attended the Georgia Association of Physicians Assistants Summer Conference July 12.

Focal points of the conference included continuing education on “What’s Hot in Aesthetics: Microneedling, Kybella and Fillers,” as well as “Recognizing Skin Conditions with New Treatments,’ and Pediatric Dermatology.

  • An OB-GYN and a nurse practitioner have joined the practice at Riverside Women’s Care, an affiliate of Hilton Head Regional Physician Network.

Erica Downey, M.D., a board-certified OB-GYN, cares for women during all stages of life and has special interests in adolescent gynecology and pelvic floor repair. She brings a holistic viewpoint to her practice and believes in the treatment of the whole person.

Dr. Downey earned her Doctor of Medicine degree at Northeast Ohio Medical University in Canton, Ohio, and completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Aultman Hospital.

She has been a practicing OB-GYN physician for six years in Northeastern Ohio and moved to South Carolina with her husband, three children and her parents.

Halle M. Welch, CNP, a board certified nurse practitioner and certified nurse midwife, has more than 25 years of healthcare experience. She enjoys taking care of women throughout their lives and has additional certification in the treatment of menopause.

Welch earned her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing at Indiana University in Bloomington, and her Master’s of Science in Nursing at Kent State University in Ohio. She earned a post-Master’s certificate in nurse midwifery from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.

Hastings is a board certified family nurse practitioner with eight years of emergency and critical care nursing experience.

She graduated magna cum laude from Technical College of the Lowcountry in Beaufort. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, and her Master’s of Science in Nursing at Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Ill.
