The First Tee of The Lowcountry will host its annual Community Leadership Awards Banquet April 12 at Sea Pines Country Club, 300 Governors Rd. on Hilton Head Island.

A cocktail reception begins at 5:15 p.m. followed by dinner at 6 p.m. and the awards presentation at 6:30 p.m.

The banquet will honor 10 area leaders who exemplify each of the core values of The First Tee and serve as examples to the youth who participate in The First Tee programs. These values guide the organization’s teaching and development programs and are intended to be adopted by our participating youth: Honesty, Integrity, Sportsmanship, Respect, Confidence, Responsibility, Perseverance, Courtesy and Judgment.

The 2016 honorees and the values they represent are:

  • Eric Esquivel of Hilton Head, Judgment
  • Lauren Brown of Bluffton, Confidence
  • Colin Swatton of Bluffton, Perseverance
  • Michael Covert of Bluffton, Sportsmanship
  • Amanda O’Nan of Hilton Head, Courtesy
  • Russ Spicer of Bluffton, Respect
  • Shannon Stephens of Hilton Head, Honesty
  • James Rowe of Bluffton, Integrity
  • Cary Corbitt of Hilton Head, Responsibility

In addition to these honorees, the board of directors will be recognizing Clyde Johnston for his community leadership and support of The First Tee.

“We are very pleased and excited to honor these 10 outstanding community leaders at our awards ceremony,” said Mike Davis, executive director of The First Tee of the Lowcountry. “They clearly represent the core values that we believe are essential to successful development programs for our children.”

The First Tee of the Lowcountry has grown its program to include Hilton Head, Bluffton, Okatie, Beaufort and Ridgeland. The organization has established a National School Program in seven schools in Beaufort and Jasper Counties.

Golf and its inherent values have been introduced to more than 1,600 young people since the chapter has begun. Its flagship facility has opened and includes a 300-yard driving range, six-hole par 3 course, chipping and putting greens, fishing pond and a nine-hole disc golf course.

Tickets for the awards banquet are $125 per person, or $1,250 for a table of 10. Sponsorships are also available.

All proceeds will help offset the costs associated with conducting The First Tee of the Lowcountry youth programs. For more information, contact Mike Davis at 843-686-2680, or via email at
