While the presidential race is grabbing plenty of headlines more than a year before the general election, an Election Day that likely will have a much greater impact on those of us in the Lowcountry is coming up on Nov. 3 in Bluffton.

That’s when residents of Bluffton will elect a mayor and two Town Council members, positions that will play a pivotal role in overseeing the town’s direction in the coming years.

We at the Chamber believe every resident should have access to all the relevant information needed to make an informed decision at the polls, and we’ve given you a one-stop shop to find it.

The Chamber Election Center on our homepage, www.hiltonheadbluffton chamber.org, provides voters with everything they will need leading up to Election Day.

We’ve included contact information for the Beaufort County Board of Voter Registration and Elections, as well as a list of frequently asked questions, including a link to find your polling place and instructions for voting by absentee ballot.

Most importantly, we’ve compiled information about all the candidates that will help you make an informed decision.

If you have only a few minutes to peruse the website, you can quickly scan candidate biographies that include basic information such as how long they have lived in Bluffton, what they do for a living, which issues they would prioritize, their favorite quotes, and their proudest moments.

With a little more time to invest, you can watch short interviews with each candidate to glean more insight into their views.

In less than 30 minutes, you can watch the interviews with all 10 candidates – two mayoral candidates and eight Town Council candidates – and come away with an understanding of where each stands.

We’ve also provided links to email each candidate if you desire more information.

We will continue to update the page with more information as the election approaches, including sample ballots.

We felt it was important to provide this vital information in a manner that is truly accessible to the residents of Bluffton. We’re confident we have done so, and we welcome your feedback on the Chamber Election Center.

After all, that’s what democracy is all about.

Bill Miles is president and CEO of the Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce.
