Jodie Mays has joined Hilton Head Hospital as Women’s Services Director.

Mays will be responsible for labor and delivery, post-partum and nursery services at Hilton Head Hospital. She will supervise about 25 employees.

Previously, Mays worked in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, and at Coastal Carolina Hospital in Hardeeville.

Mays earned her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from McKendree University and her Master of Nursing degree from the University of Cincinnati.

  • Staff members at Sandy Paws Pet Salon have received CPR and first aid certification through PetTech. Denise D’Amico, Denise Gardner, Heather Bennett and Chloe Hitchcock became certified Aug. 18.

In addition to first aid skills and CPR, the hands-on course taught the staff what to do if a pet is choking or has ingested toxic plants or foods.

  • Hilton Head Buick GMC Cadillac in Bluffton was purchased Aug. 1 and became Garber Automotive Group’s 19th franchise dealership and the first dealership in South Carolina.

The dealership represents Buick GMC and Cadillac franchises, and will continue to operate under the name of Hilton Head Buick GMC Cadillac.

Shane Gault is the new general manager of the dealership.

David W. Perry has been appointed Chief Executive Officer at Optim Health System, headquartered in Savannah, effective immediately.

Optim operates more than 20 healthcare facilities across southeast Georgia and South Carolina and includes team of surgeons, physicians, clinical and administrative members.

An accomplished healthcare executive, Perry has more than 17 years of healthcare executive management experience, including Chief Financial Officer, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Accounting Officer.

He has served as interim CEO since May 2018 and as Optim Health System’s Chief Financial Officer for the previous three years.

Prior to joining Optim, Perry had been part of the executive leadership of VeriMed, InScripts Consulting Solutions, NewHope Bariatrics and MedCath Corporation, all based in Charlotte, N.C., as well as Drugscan, based in Horsham, Pa.

Perry began his career in public accounting with Deloitte & Touche in 1994.

Joe Gossage, MA, LPC and Jackie Mathisen, MA, LPC have joined the practice of Psychological & Counseling Associates of the Lowcountry, LLC.

Gossage obtained his Master’s Degree in counseling from the Georgia School of Professional Psychology (now part of Argosy University) in 2000, while working as an engineering manager for the former BellSouth Telecommunication Corporation.

He has worked in outpatient clinics, psychiatric hospitals, and in his private practice in rural Tennessee, treating individuals affected by traumatic experiences, depression, anxiety, addiction, obsessions and compulsions, oppositional defiant behaviors, and problematic anger.

Most recently, Gossage has been working with elementary students in a school environment as a military and family life counselor. This involves not only helping the students but also assisting their parents and families.

Mathisen obtained her Master’s Degree in marriage and family therapy from The College of New Jersey after working as an assistant for an addictions counseling nonprofit organization in Newark, N.J.

She has worked as a general mental health clinician in a private facility and eventually became the clinical coordinator of the eating disorders unit.

Concurrently, Mathisen founded her private practice in New Jersey, treating individuals, families, and couples. Since relocating to Bluffton with her family, she has also worked with children of military families.

With a specialty in treating eating disorders in individuals of all ages, she also treats depression, anxiety, couple-family issues, grief-loss, adolescent struggles, and lifestyle change issues.
