Heidi Wright-Tennyson, director of golf at Moss Creek Golf Club, recently won the highest honor given to a PGA professional: the coveted Golf Professional of the Year Award, given by the PGA of the Carolinas, the largest section of the PGA in the country.
I can’t think of a more deserving person. The guidelines for this prestigious award are overall performance as a golf professional at her facility, level of service to the section, leadership ability, image, and the ability to inspire fellow professionals.
Wright-Tennyson has been at Moss Creek for 23 years. She holds one of the longest tenures of any golf pro in the Lowcountry and is one of only four female directors of golf in the Carolinas.
But beyond the duties of her job, she is incredibly passionate about the game of golf. Her enthusiasm is contagious and she promotes the game more than any other professional I know of in Bluffton. I lived in Moss Creek for a year and a half, and all I ever heard was how great Heidi was with the membership.
Wright-Tennyson oversees more than 200 tournaments a year, including weekly events, member events, senior events, women’s outings, college and junior events.
She is an adviser to the Hilton Head Junior Golf Association and has a PGA Junior Golf league at Moss Creek. She recognizes that the game of golf will grow only if we develop the juniors.
She also is the owner of the Moss Creek Pro Shop, which enables her to oversee all purchases, stock equipment and demo clubs. She doesn’t want her members purchasing equipment without a proper fitting.
In addition to all her other responsibilities, she still teaches more than 300 lessons a year to her Moss Creek members.
She is all about providing service and promoting the game.
One of Wright-Tennyson’s greatest accomplishments is the mentoring of her fellow professionals. She does a great job of developing her assistant pros. “I really enjoy mentoring assistant golf professionals and helping them figure out what to do with their future,” she said.
Many of her assistants have gone on to become directors of golf, directors of instruction, and head golf professionals.
“Winning this award was an honor and very humbling,” she said. “I feel so blessed to have been given the opportunity to be a head professional at such a young age. Moss Creek helped develop me into the professional I am today.”
As you can see, Heidi Wright-Tennyson is a pro’s pro as well as the ultimate golf professional for the Moss Creek community and the entire Lowcountry.
